PERHAPS

“…perhaps
what is asked of us is zero. Perhaps we are like the seed of the lodgepole pine
that opens through no effort of its own. It needs the heat of a wildfire blaze.
… the carbon-rich soil left by the fire that feeds the seed and helps the tree grow.”
Perhaps.
Perhaps we too can ‘soften, open and yield’
To what is, to what is here anyway, bidden or unbidden.
And, ‘see what happens next’.
Perhaps..
Like the marram beach grass that grows and
stabilizes by spreading a system of underground runners
called rhizomes that form an underground living net
we too are invited to ‘stabilize down under’.
To take a deep breath, find our feet, and return to
The root of the root of ourselves
when change happens in all directions.
The red dirt road we’ve walked for 20 years,
Now being prepared for paving;
The beautiful beach pines leading to the beach
Now being cut in half by the
power company, clearing the way for wires.
The seven trees we had to take down,
trees that initially survived hurricane Fiona,
now dead from the long term
impact of saltwater.
Perhaps…
The invitation is to simply
‘allow’; to “presence” change.
To stay curious, open, and notice
what newness comes alive,
when change comes upon us.
Bidden or unbidden an invitation arrives to notice
our underground root system, a network of belonging
Another living net.
